Sculpture Cleaning

The cleaning of sculpture and statuary can not necessarily be accomplished with a bucket of soapy water and a sponge or a brush.  Certain chemicals and tools may damage a sculpture, maybe beyond repair.

The City of Fountains Foundation provides training to organizations that are responsible for the maintenance of public art and fountains. Organizations that we have worked with include the Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Dept., the City of Leawood, The City of Shawnee, the Verona Gardens Homes Association and many other groups in the metropolitan area.

Professional conservators assist our volunteers at classes designed to show your organization how to properly clean and maintain your sculptures and statuary. Please call the City of Fountains Foundation office at 816-842-2299 to learn more about the classes we offer or to schedule a class.

Below are some guides to cleaning stone and bronze sculpture.  However, if you are unsure how to proceed or have further questions about doing the cleaning, please contact us to arrange assistance.
