Diane: Sitting

Owner: Bank of America

Artist/Designer: Richard McDermott Miller (sculpture), Gordon Jarchow (architect)

Dates: 1976

Medium: Bronze (sculpture)

Description:

This life-size bronze by Richard McDermott Miller depicts a nude woman seated on a high stool or pedestal. She seems to be contemplating her situation and the triangular pool and fountains that surround her. She is set back from the street adjacent to the Jefferson Street access to the Seville Parking Garage, so perhaps her thoughts include all the traffic in and out of the garage as well. Originally, a motor pivoted the sculpture and water from the fountain sprayed up to her waist. The motor would break down frequently and eventually it was removed and Diane became stationary.
