Description:
Gates raise as cars leave the Vehicle Impound Facility and lower as the cars pass, presenting a synchronized display inspired by cultural rites of passage. The hope is that the experience of the gates raising and lowering will work to curb one's frustration felt from having to retrieve one's car from the impound lot. It is also meant to honor the thankless jobs of the impound facility staff, tow truck drivers and police personnel.
Each gate tower is 16 feet tall and the each gate is 12 feet long. The towers are placed 30 feet apart for a total of 180 feet from end to end.
Part of the City of Kansas City's One Percent for the Arts Program.
