Owner: Jackson County

Artist: Steven Whitacre

Dates: Dedicated September 1998

Medium: Painted steel

Description:

In front of the Jackson County Detention Center sits this abstract sculpture by Steven Whitacre. It consists of steel bars painted red rising upward to form a tall fence around a triangular garden. The bars cross each other at various angles and cast shadows on the nearby buildings and sidewalks. The artist constructed this sculpture to define an incarcerated garden, reflecting the purpose of the building it fronts. It was commissioned and funded by the Jackson County Public Art Program.
