Growing

Owner: City of Leawood

Artist: Richard Hunt

Dates: Dedicated August 20, 1999

Medium: Stainless steel

Description:

Artist Richard Hunt was commissioned to create "Growing" for the City of Leawood. He uses geometric forms like triangles and cylinders to build the bases of the sculptures. He then adds curved, flowing forms to sit on the bases to create abstract works and then let the viewer decide what the shapes resemble. "Growing" follows this blueprint using stainless steel welded together. Some viewers may see a big checkmark, others may see various animals, while others may see something else entirely.

This sculpture was originally installed next to the Leawood City Hall. When Leawood expanded the library, the sculpture was relocated to its current location in the sculpture park along Tomahawk Creek Parkway.
