This light is on the corner opposite the Granada Light and sits next to the Court of the Penguins at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Nichols. Two wrought iron arms extend out from near the top of a light pole. The light pole and the light at the top are the same as the ones used on the Path of Gold Light along 47th Street. One of the arms supports a 42-inch replica of the Santa Maria, one of the ships used by Christopher Columbus on his initial voyage to what turned out to be the New World. The other arm supports a plaque with inscriptions in both English and Spanish.
The monument was a gift from Miller Nichols to the Plaza. It is was dedicated in 1992 to all the third grade students in the Greater Kansas City area and commemorate's the 500th anniversary of Columbus' landing in the New World.
